The hybrid crosses we sell have been produced as laying hens and typically lay more eggs than a pure breed hen in their earlier years, the different breed produce different egg colours.   What is the difference between Hybrid hens & Pure Breed Hens? Hybrid hens have been bred to be prolific egg layers and they will lay all through the year in their first year with there egg production then starting to slow down as they become older, due to there high egg production in the early years they typically have a shorter lifespan than there pure breed cousins.  Pure breeds tend to have a longer life expectancy with a more steady egg laying lifespan they will lay less than a Hybrid each year but there egg laying doesnt slow down as much as they get older.
